With the upcoming inevitable flu season this fall and winter, understanding some of the differences between the flu and COVID-19 is extremely important. Both diseases can lead to very similar symptoms, so it is important to continue wearing a mask, diligently washing hands, and keeping socially distanced in public. Some of these similar symptoms can include headaches, cough, and fever. The CDC has published guidance on the flu and COVID-19 including some similarities and differences. Some notable differences include the time to see symptoms after exposure and the length one could be contagious. This year is probably one of the most important years yet to make sure to get the flu shot as a preventative measure. Health experts are also very concerned with someone contracting the flu and COVID-19 at once and how best to navigate that situation. More individuals with flu vaccines will also hopefully keep hospitals more free to be able to handle the COVID-19 cases. Flu shots should already be available to be administered and individuals should try to receive them before November.
