NCFCS Applauds the House Passage of “George Floyd Justice in Policing Act”

After the recent unjust murder of George Floyd by police force, many in the United States delved into a period of education and research about the continued racism and related issue of police brutality. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, paves the way for police reform and addressing the systemic racism still in existence today. Some of the regulations coming from this new act includes prohibiting chokeholds, racial and religious profiling, and ending qualified immunity in the police force. This act is the first ever in the United States truly making a bold statement to hold police accountable. There will also be changes made to the training process of law enforcement including making recommendations based on President Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
