With summer coming to an end, many school systems have begun their fall terms in person amidst the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Communities around the country are having to balance the necessity of education with the necessity of keeping everyone safe. As many schools have decided to open for in person learning, they are quickly having to close again and have students and staff quarantine. Recently a school district in northern Georgia had to have over 800 students quarantine, in what started with one second-grader testing positive after the first day of school. This student did not feel any symptoms until after the school day. This specific school district does not require students and staff to wear face masks, only recommends it.
Although no other positive cases have been reported yet, it is important to monitor the benefits and difficulties which come with reopening school districts.
