Bio:

Dr. Leon has worked as a primary care physician, health center manager, medical advisor, diplomat, senior health information specialist and as a medical call center supervisor. As a Health Center Manager, he had direct contact with underserved communities and their needs. He has extensive experience in planning, organizing, and implementing public health programs for underserved people. These public health programs were designed to cover areas like immunization, maternal and child health, infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria), food and nutrition, and emergency preparedness. As a diplomat, he worked for the embassy of El Salvador as a community affairs manager for the Salvadoran Community. His mission was to provide a link between the Salvadoran community and the government of El Salvador. Dr. Leon was the lead supervisor at CDC-INFO. He verbally provided advanced clinical inquiry responses to health related inquiries from consumers, educators, researchers and medical/health professionals for a variety of health communications programs including: immunization, STDs TB, HIV/AIDS, Emergency preparedness, etc. In addition, Dr. Leon supervised and trained Health information specialists at CDC-INFO and OraQuick Answer Center. CDC-INFO is a large call center that receives around 500 calls a day. Approximately 20% of these calls are from health care professionals including physicians, nurses, researchers and epidemiologists. OraQuick Answer Center provided HIV/AIDS information and referrals and helped more than 3,500 study participants who called looking for information on an in-home HIV test and HIV/AIDS.

Speaker will provide:

  • Expect a speaker contract.
  • Multi-dimensional PowerPoint presentations.
  • New lectures developed upon request
  • Provides presentations at all levels: basic, intermediate and advanced.
  • Projector can be provided under certain circumstances (agreed to in advance in writing). 

Host Committee will provide: 

  • Projector, screen, table, extension cord, microphone, and a captivating audience. 
  • Audio taping is not allowed (unless advance written approval)
  • Honorarium, lodging & transportation (if applicable).
